I thought you'd like to know. A small blurb on a show I was in last weekend:

TAG art gallery & Isle of Printing present

Bi-Annual Nashville Print & Poster Parade

Featuring affordable artworks on paper for everyone!

Saturday Hours - 10am to 6pm

Venue – Ruby Green, Nashville, TN

If the economy crunch is affecting your art collecting or home decorating, well this is the answer to your problems! Tag art gallery’s Jerry Dale McFadden and Isle of Printing’s Bryce McCloud have put together another print and poster art extravaganza coming up at the end of August for one weekend only. The show will feature some of the hottest printmakers from around the country together under one roof. The artwork will be exhibited at Nashville’s only non-profit art center, Ruby Green. A portion of sales from the show will benefit Ruby Green.

This is the show for folks looking for unique and affordable artwork for their home, dorm room, office or wherever. There will be lots of gig posters/rock posters as well as art prints of all kinds, whether made from screenprinting, letterpress or stenciled artwork. Average prices range between $20 to $40. Just in time for back-to-school!

Some of the fine printmakers that will be featured include Nashville’s own Bryce McCloud of Isle of Printing. McCloud, who has helped pull similar shows together with TAG, is a renowned guru of printmaking here and around the world. McCloud apprenticed at Hatch Show Print years ago before venturing out on his own and continues in the tradition of vintage letterpress, woodcut and linocut prints. McCloud was featured in Chronicle Books’ “The Art of Modern Rock” along with some of the other artists that will be featured in this exhibit.

Other artists exhibiting include Lesley Patterson-Marx, Emily Leonard, Laura Baisden, Dan Grzeca, Dirk Fowler of f2design, Allison Glancey of Strawberryluna, Burlesque of North America, Mike Davis and Sasha Barr just to name a few.

Though TAG art gallery no longer has an actual gallery space, this is the first installment and example of Jerry Dale McFadden’s plan to continue curating interesting art shows in the Nashville area as well as around the country. Other upcoming events include an exhibit of new work by New York artist Lori Field along with Nashville favorite Anna Jaap, to be held at Estel Gallery, September 6th – October 4th. Also, McFadden has arranged a show of new paintings by Samuel Dunson to be held in October at the Vanderbilt Divinity School, Oct. 9th through Nov. 7th.

Wedding Bells

My friend and roommate from college is getting married in January and asked me to design her wedding invitations and programs. Having access to Hatch Show in this case turns out to be totally invaluable. Who doesn't want hand printed wedding invitations!? 

It will eventually be trifold, with a perforated/tear-off rsvp postcard. Printed with the florishes in a split fountain bright blue/lightblue and all the type in black. Heres some shots of the rough mockup:

 (YES, I am aware of the typos, if you know Betsy...I have no idea who really reads this blog. There weren't any more "a's" in the typeface I needed so I had to temporarily substitute "e's" instead so I could get the spacing right.)

I was given quite a surprise ladies and gents.  Today, I was contacted by a young Palauan in the arts.  My parents somehow know her parents, but that's not really surprising. Palauans seem to know everyone who is somewhat of Palauan decent.

The surprise is far more exciting. There are more Palauans in the world of art!  I'm so excited, that I don't have to think I'm the only one anymore.  This is big news!

To top it off, I was asked to provide a bio, so me and my work can be used in a class presentation! I feel so professional!  It's exciting, but also weird. I've been been used in a presentation before.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho. . .

I've been making work again. Granted its really silly work, but its work none-the-less. I feel like its totally different from my work in undergrad as far as mood and intention goes but some of the imagery is the same.  I'm drawing much more than normal. 

Also, currently making art for the Tomato Art Festival Show that is held in East Nashville on August 9th. I'll be posting those as soon as they are finished.  I could not be more glad to have a deadline again. 

Another announcement: Jerry Phillips, our friend Alex Griendling, and I are collaborating on a sort of traveling sketchbook project that we created. The theme is "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral" I'm sure we'll be periodically posting things about that as well.

As you may have guessed I have finished my first year of graduate school. Instead of boring you with the details, I'll let you glimpse a tad into my next semester. Imagine a classroom with kids , ready to tackle a blank page and create.

I was asked two days ago, if I would teach a beginning drawing class Monday and Wednesday nights in the Fall! My first real class!!! I'm so excited.

Also, crazy peeps, me and the Robyn are headed to South Dakota this July....who's going to be there?

First Year of Grad School...over?

In four days, I will take part in the end of the semester graduate critiques.

This crit is something rather special. It's officially called, "The Advancement to Candidacy" crit, which all Murray Kids can relate to. Back in Murray, we called it "Mid-degree Review."

Basically, I'll show my work and talk about where I think it's heading and how the changes in imagery and idea are related to this direction. They will then decide whether or not I can continue with the program.


I sat down with Nathan today, and we both had the same reflections about grad school at Bradley. Murray treated the BFA students like Graduate Students. So we're actually not having trouble at Bradley, that's not including the working at developin concepts and experimenting with new processes and such. you get the deal.

I'm not really concerned with the semester ending...I'm really shocked that I'm already through 1/3 of my Graduate School Career...that's incredible.
